Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is set to become the party’s nominee for president of the United States, according to a count by The Associated Press. A count of pledged delegates she won in the primaries and caucuses across the country and a survey of superdelegates, who have the power to support any candidate, indicates that Clinton has the overall support of the required 2,383 delegates she needs for the nomination.
Rival candidate Bernie Sanders has only 1,569 delegates.
This means Clinton is set to be the first woman to secure the nomination of any major political party of the United States. She will formally accept her party’s nomination in July at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
