Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United States on Monday as part of his five-nation tour. He laid a wreath at the Arlington National Cemetery, a military burial ground where many who died in the country’s civil war have been interred. On Tuesday, Modi will lunch at the White House with President Barack Obama and attend a meeting of the US-India Business Council.

According to the US State Department, Modi and Obama will focus on climate change, security and diplomacy. The two leaders have meet six times before this. Modi is also expected to address a session of the US Congress during this trip. He will then visit Mexico before returning home.

On Monday, Modi managed to get Switzerland's support in India's bid to be a part of the Nuclear Suppliers Group – an international group comprising 48 countries that work together to monitor and control the export of materials or technology that can be used to create nuclear weapons. India had applied for membership to it in May, and Switzerland is considered an important country in it.
