A massive fire broke out at the Metro House building near the iconic Regal Cinema in South Mumbai's Colaba area on Thursday. Eight fire tenders were sent to the spot to douse the fllames, ANI reported. Four fire tenders from the city's naval dockyard joined the firefighting efforts later. Rescue operations are underway.
The blaze broke out in the higher floors of the building and spread to the upper storeys. Officials do not know what caused the fire yet. Firefighters rescued two people from the building, Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Sharma said. No casualties or injuries have been reported yet.
The busy commercial area has been cordoned off. The building houses the popular eatery Cafe Mondegar, as well as a McDonald's eatery.
