Not much action was seen on a rainy Tuesday in Paris at the French Open, but there were two major upsets in the women's draw amidst the frustrating rain breaks.
Second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska crashed out of the tournament after a shock defeat to Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in the fourth round. Radwanska looked like she was cruising at one stage after leading 6-2 3-0, but lost 10 consecutive games after the match resumed. She battled injury, but could not get the win, leaving the Bulgarian to savour a 2-6 6-3 6-3 victory.
Pironkova will play Australian Samantha Stosur in the quarter-finals, who completed an upset of her own at around the same time. The Australian defeated the sixth-seeded Simona Halep in straight sets in the fourth round, winning 7-6 6-3.
Apart from these two matches, rain interrupted most other games. World No 1 Novak Djokovic's fourth-round match against Roberto Bautista Agut was suspended with the score reading 3-6 6-4 4-1, while Andy Murray's quarter-final against Richard Gasquet was cancelled along with Serena Williams's Round 4 clash against Elina Svitolina.
As for the Indian contingent, Leander Paes and partner Marcin Matkowski's men's doubles quarter-finals clash against the American pair of Mike and Bob Bryan was also suspended after the Bryan brothers had taken a 4-3 lead in the first set.
