Officials at Charthawal police station in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar reportedly asked a complainant to polish their shoes as a condition for filing his report about his missing mobile phone, reported ANI. The incident, caught on camera, led to widespread criticism after it went viral on social media, reported The Hindu.
Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar on Monday said a probe has been ordered into the matter, and the force will take appropriate action against officers if found guilty. In the video, 50-year-old Sittu, who is a cobbler by profession, is seen polishing shoes of the police officers on being reportedly asked by the station Reader Rohtash to do if he wanted to file his complaint.
