The All-India Anti-Terrorist Front has warned of attacks in Punjab by a Canada-based pro-Khalistan group, ANI reported. The anti-terror front has told the Indian government that more attacks are likely to take place in the country if strict action was not taken against “people plotting terrorist activities with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence’s” funding.
AIATF chief Maninderjeet Singh Bitta told ANI, “Narendra Modi’s government is very strong and their fight against terrorism is quite clear. But I would like to caution the government that they need to take this seriously.” Reports said that according to Punjab intelligence officers, Canadian Sikh Hardeep Nijjar is the operational head of the Khalistan group now and has formed a team to carry out attacks in India.
The Khalistan movement seeks to create a separate Sikh homeland called Khalistan through armed struggle. The Indian government has not yet responded to the reports.
