Two men were arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl in Nanpara village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. Her body was found hanging from a tree on Saturday. The details of the crime are unclear, with reports citing various accounts.
NDTV quoted her family as saying that she had been missing since Friday and that three men from the village, which is located 160 km from Lucknow, had kidnapped her. The girl knew one of the accused, who had reportedly asked her to meet him and was later joined by two other men, the report said. The men allegedly raped and killed her and then hung her body from a tree to make it seem like a suicide.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the girl’s family said she had gone to relieve herself in the fields in Nanpara as their house did not have a toilet. The report named the three suspects as Ghanshyam, Imran and Sandeep Yadav.
Police are on the lookout for the third accused. An autopsy confirmed that the teenager was raped and strangled, senior police officer Salik Ram Verma said.
