Bollywood movie Udta Punjab has come under the Censor knives, as the Central Board of Film Certification has refused to give its nod to the film unless director Abhishek Chaubey facilitates 40 cuts, which include expletives, visual substance abuse and a song, reported dna. The Censor Board has raised objection to “excessive swearing, abusive language and drug consumption” shown in the film.
According to the news report, the team has approached Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore seeking an "A" certificate, which might help them avoid the cuts. The film examines the theme of substance abuse in Punjab through a cross-section of characters played by Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor, among others. It has been co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, who has reportedly approached the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal for a fast-track clearance of the film.
The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal has raised objection against the film and its depiction of the state. Media reports have suggested that the Board's refusal to give certification to the film is politically motivated, reported Hindustan Times. Punjab is going for Assembly polls in February 2017.
