After becoming the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump has said that if elected, he will back out of the international climate change pact signed after the conference in Paris in December 2015. He also promised to revive the oil and coal industries in the United States, and roll back measures introduced by the Barack Obama government to cut down on environmental pollution. Though he had earlier promised to “renegotiate” the Paris deal, this is the first time he has said he would back out of it altogether, The Hindu reported.
“We have more natural gas than Russia, Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia combined; we have three times more coal than Russia. Our total untapped oil and gas reserves on federal lands equal an estimated USD 50 trillion,” he said, adding that any regulation that is “outdated, unnecessary, bad for workers, or contrary to the national interest will be scrapped.”
The Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton has promised the opposite, and has projected jobs in clean energy, saying sustainable and renewable energy will help the US gain in international trade.
