The Board of Control for Cricket in India may take action against West Indian batsman Chris Gayle for making controversial remarks during an interview to a female British journalist. Indian Premier League chairman Rajeev Shukla said he would look into the matter, according to a report on Wednesday in The Times of India.

"The players must behave themselves. We expect the players to adhere to a certain kind of behaviour when the tournament is on. The players should maintain the sanctity of the league. These kind of statements are totally uncalled for in public domain. I will take up this issue with the president and the secretary of the BCCI," said Shukla.

Ajay Shirke, the newly appointed secretary of the cricket body, said they would act on the matter if they received a complaint.

The West Indian batsman found himself at the centre of controversy for allegedly making sexist remarks during an interview, in which he asked the female journalist "how many black men" she had "had" and whether she dyed her pubic hair. He also spoke about his "very, very big bat".
