Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced that the party will contest the 2017 Goa Assembly elections. Kejriwal launched the party’s campaign during a rally in Panaji, blaming the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party for poor governance and corruption in the state. He also picked on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he had a troubled record with the country’s educational institutions, naming Jawaharlal Nehru University, Pune's Film and Television Institute of India and Hyderabad Central University, among others.
Kejriwal used the example of Delhi, saying his party had started with nothing there, but managed to edge out much larger outfits and swept the national capital. Last year, the AAP won 67 out of the 70 seats in Delhi. Goa has just 40 seats, and the AAP hopes to be able to win some of them, given the Congress’ poor run in state elections of late.
