Bollywood film Sarbjit will be tax-free in Uttar Pradesh, reported The Indian Express. The film, based on Indian convict Sarabjit Singh who died in a Pakistan jail in 2013, released in theatres across the country on Friday. A Pakistani court had convicted Singh for terror-related activities and spying, though he held that he was a farmer who crossed the Indian border into Pakistan by mistake.
It stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha, among others. The film is directed by Omung Kumar, who has also acted in it. The team had met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav earlier this month. The state government has also waived taxes for a few other films recently, including Nil Battey Sannata, Neerja, Airlift, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Humari Adhuri Kahaani.
The producer of the film Jacky Bhagnani took to Twitter to express his happiness after the Samajwadi Party government's decision. Bhagnani is also part of the film's cast.
