The Delhi High Court has directed the Wrestling Federation of India to consider Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar's plea to hold trials between him and Narsingh Yadav to decide India's representative in the 74 kg category at the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero. The federation has been asked to file an affidavit making its stand clear.

Yadav had secured a quota for India in the 74 kg category during the Wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas last year and was thought to be the Indian representative for the Olympics. However, Kumar challenged that assumption and has called for a bout between him and Yadav to decide who takes the berth. The Wrestling Federation of India has been non-committal on the matter and the Sports Ministry also decided not to intervene, saying it was a decision that the federation would have to take.

Kumar has won medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, but won them in the 66 kg category.
