Former Janata Dal (United) legislator Manorama Devi, who was suspended by the party for trying to defend her son who is involved in a road rage death, surrendered before a Gaya court on Tuesday. Bihar Police was looking for her after they found liquor bottles stashed in her house while searching for her son Rocky Yadav, wanted for killing a 19-year-old after the teenager allegedly overtook Yadav's car in Gaya. Alcohol is banned in the state.
Police had also filed an FIR against her under the Child Labour Act, after a minor was found employed at her house. The lawmaker had approached a local court seeking anticipatory bail, but her plea was rejected on Monday.
Yadav reportedly shot dead the teenager on May 7, and was arrested on May 10 after evading police. Manorama Devi and her husband are also believed to have helped Yadav hide from authorities.
