Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has accepted the Indian Olympic Association's invitation to become a Goodwill Ambassador for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this August. Rahman joins cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, shooter Abhinav Bindra and actor Salman Khan, who were previously appointed to the post.
The goodwill ambassador's post has come under scrutiny after Khan became the first to be appointed. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and and former Indian sprinting legend Milkha Singh both criticised the move, saying a sportsperson should have been chosen. The IOA had defended its decision, but later approached Bindra, Tendulkar and Rahman for the same post.
