Indian wrestlers Babita Kumari and Ravinder Khatri qualified for the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janiero in the women's 53 kg freestyle and the 85 kg Greco-Roman style categories respectively. This was after United World Wrestling banned athletes who had finished above them for doping violations.
Kumari had lost in the semi-finals to Mongolia's Sumiya Erdenechimeg at the Asian Olympic Qualifier earlier this year. However Erdenchimeg tested positive for banned substances and her quota was transferred to Kumari.
Similarly, Khatri also achieved the Olympic quota after Kyrgyzstan's Zhanarbek Kenzheev, who had defeated him in the quarter-finals of the same tournament, also tested positive for the same offence.
The two join Sandeep Tomar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Hardeep Singh, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, who have already qualified for the Olympics.
