Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who had called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, suggested he would make an exception in the case of London’s new mayor Sadiq Khan (pictured above). On Monday, Trump told The New York Times that he was happy London had elected their first Muslim mayor. When asked how his proposed ban on Muslims would affect Khan, he said, “There will always be exceptions.”
On Sadiq Khan’s victory he told The New York Times, “I think if he does a great job, it will really — you lead by example, always lead by example. If he does a good job and frankly if he does a great job, that would be a terrific thing.”
Khan has been critical of Trump’s policies and earlier said he would be unable to travel to the US if the business tycoon was elected President. Khan had also accused British Prime Minister David Cameron of using “fear and innuendo to turn different ethnic groups against each other – something straight out of the Donald Trump’s playbook”, PTI reported.
