The Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to get a vital two points at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, defeating bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab by a run in a thriller.

A rare failure from Virat Kohli, who scored just 20, and three quick wickets around the halfway stage meant the Royal Challengers Bangalore put up 175/6, their second-lowest score in this year's IPL. It was AB de Villiers who added the thrust towards the end, playing some spectacular shots to stroke his way to a 35-ball 66. Punjab's KC Cariappa impressed, finishing with figures of 2/16 in his three overs.

Kings XI Punjab looked on course to seal only their fourth win of the season, but suffered a mini-collapse of their own as Wriddhiman Saha and David Miller were stumped off consecutive deliveries by Yuzuvendra Chahal with the score on 88. Captain and opener Murali Vijay battled hard and single-handedly took the team close with a perfectly composed 89 off 67 balls. However with 37 required off 18 balls, he failed to clear Chaval at square leg with Shane Watson giving Bangalore a vital breakthrough.

Seventeen runs were required off the last six balls and Marcus Stoinis smashed a six and a four, leaving Punjab needing four off the last ball. They only managed to get two as Bangalore managed to sneak home.
