The sister of the 29-year-old law student who was murdered and raped in Perumbavoor, Kerala, was called in for questioning on Monday, twelve days after the incident took place. Police investigations were believed to have hit a dead end, especially after the initial investigation was allegedly mismanaged. However on Monday, officials said the victim’s sister provided crucial new information, and clues from her phone. They also asked her to identify objects the police collected from the victim's home.
Police are now reportedly on the lookout for a migrant labourer connected to the case. No arrests have been made so far. The 29-year-old was found by her mother after she had been brutally murdered on April 28. Her body bore more than 30 injury marks, while an autopsy report confirmed signs of rape.
The state and police’s poor handling of the case has caused massive outrage and protests (pictured above). Police reportedly did not send a forensics team, nor did they cordon off the victim’s residence till at least four days after she was found dead near her home.
