A 25-year-old domestic worker from Hyderabad was allegedly tortured to death by her employer in Saudi Arabia, reported ANI. Asima Khatoon died in hospital while undergoing treatment for chest diseases in the West Asian country, the report said. While any other details about her death are still unclear, her family was informed of her death on Thursday by an unknown person who called from Riyadh. The case is being investigated by the police.
Khatoon had gone to Riyadh in December last year on a business visa. After the 90-day visa had expired, she was kept in illegal confinement by her employer Abdul Rahman Ali Mohammed, the news agency reported. Khatoon had telephoned her family around two months ago and told them about her employer torturing her. She had said she was being harassed mentally and physically, and had requested her family to bring her back home.
