Three women were killed and 17 others were wounded on Tuesday after Syrian rebels opened fire at a hospital in a government-held locality in Aleppo city, according to state news agency SANA. Rebels launched rockets at Al-Dabbeet hospital in Muhafaza district, as well as in other neighbourhoods controlled by the government, where 11 others were killed, AFP reported.
Rebel forces fired rockets and shells in the government-controlled western districts of Syria’s largest city throughout the day, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Syrian regime resumed airstrikes on the city’s rebel-held eastern areas in the afternoon.
Aleppo (pictured above) has seen a spike in violence since April 22, and more than 250 civilians have been killed since then. The landmark ceasefire agreement that came into force on February 27 is “barely alive”, the United Nations had said, after 27 people were killed following airstrikes on a hospital in Aleppo. At least 135 people were killed since the Syrian truce came into effect on February 27, the observatory had said.
