Indian batsman Virat Kohli has been nominated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the highest sporting honour in India, reported the Hindustan Times. His teammate Ajinkya Rahane has also been nominated by the BCCI for the Arjuna Award.
Kohli has been in fine form for the Indian cricket team over the past year, leading them to several victories. He had received the Arjuna Award in 2013. The last recipient of the Khel Ratna from the cricketing fraternity was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who got it in 2007. Previous recipients of the award are Sania Mirza for tennis in 2015, Ronjan Sodhi for shooting in 2013 and Yogeshwar Dutt for wrestling and Vijay Kumar for shooting in 2012.
