Mumbai Indians won the so-called Maharashtra Derby, defeating Rising Pune Supergiants comfortably by eight wickets at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday. Mumbai chased down Pune's 159/5 in the 19th over of their innings.
A fluent 57 from Saurabh Tiwary along with a breezy 45 from Steven Smith gave the Rising Pune Supergiants impetus, but Mumbai Indians pulled things back with some incisive bowling at the death to restrict Pune to 159/5 in their 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for Mumbai, picking up 3/29 in his four overs.
Mumbai's chase was driven by another typically fluent knock from captain Rohit Sharma, who scored his fifth half-century of the tournament. Pune did manage to get the wickets of Parthiv Patel and Ambati Rayudu, but Sharma remained unruffled, finishing with 85 off 60 balls as Mumbai cantered home to their third win on the trot. The victory also took them up to second place in the table.
