The Supreme Court on Saturday quashed a petition filed by students appealing the court’s order for the National Eligibility Entrance Test to be held this year. The apex court stood by its earlier order and said the test will be held as decided, the first phase of which is on Sunday, May 1. Students had filed the plea saying that the state and Central Board of Secondary Education were different and that they would not have time to prepare for the test. The top court said, “let the exam go on”, and added that nothing stopped students from preparing for the examination.

The common entrance test to medical courses will be held in two phases, on May 1 and July 24, for the upcoming academic year. On Friday, the Centre had asked the Supreme Court to modify its order, citing practical difficulties in holding the common entrance examination this year. The bench had asked “aggrieved parties” to file applications that will be heard on May 3, The Indian Express reported.

According to the new schedule, the All India Pre-Medical Test scheduled to be conducted on May 1 will be treated as the first phase of NEET, and those who had not signed up to take it will take their entrance test on July 24. The results will be out on August 17, and the entire admission process will be completed by September 30, as per the Supreme Court’s order last week.
