A massive fire broke out at a bio-diesel manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam on Tuesday night, reported Hindustan Times. At least 10 fire tenders were used to douse the flames at Biomax Fuels Limited located in a Special Economic Zone in Duvvada. No casualties have been reported so far and the cause of the fire is known.
“Eight fire engines reached the spot and two fire engines with chemical foam were requisitioned from HPCL [Hindustan Petroleum] and Eastern Naval Command to put out the fire,” district fire officer JM Rao said. Reports said six oil tankers exploded during the fire, which also engulfed at least 11 out of 15 storage tanks of the manufacturing unit. Rao said the fire officials could not access the storage area. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu spoke to senior officials and naval authorities engaged in the operation to take stock of the situation.
