Underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim reportedly has a crippling form of gangrene, CNN-News18 said on Monday. Ibrahim, who remains a point of contention between India and Pakistan, might lose his legs to the disease. However, soon after the report, Ibrahim’s aide Chhota Shakeel told The Times of India said that he was “fit”.
Reports of Ibrahim’s condition began after doctors were seen at his purported residence. Doctors from Liaquat National Hospital and Combined Military Hospital in Karachi told News18 that his legs might need to be amputated. The advanced gangrene is because of loss of blood supply due to high blood pressure and blood sugar, and is said to be a life-threatening form of the disease. He is unlikely to be moved out of Karachi for treatment.
The gangster has been wanted by Indian security officials for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts that killed 257 people and injured 717. However, Pakistan has denied his presence in the country since the blasts.
