If Iran and the United States, who have had a strained relation for decades, could make amends, India and Pakistan can also reconcile similarly, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Saturday. "If the US and Iran, two sworn enemies, can join hands, I see no reason why India and Pakistan cannot come together to restore stability and begin a new era of peace and prosperity in the region,” the chief minister said, according to PTI.
Mufti, who is also the tourism minister of the state, said she was in favour of creating more transit points in the state to promote communication and harmony between the people on both sides of the border. “I hope our good intentions are reciprocated by our neighbour,’’ she said. Her late father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed wanted Suchetgarh in the state to be like Wagah in Amritsar where people meet and greet each other. She also plans to landscape open spaces around the Zero Line to attract tourists from both the countries.
