Bengaluru FC were crowned champions of the 2016 season of the I-League, despite going down 5-0 to Mohun Bagan in the final game of their season in Siliguri on Saturday. Bengaluru FC finished the season with 32 points, two more than second-placed Bagan, thereby winning their second I-League title in two years.
The champions had clinched the title last Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Salgaocar and put out a noticeably weakened side against Mohun Bagan. However, Bagan were in great form, scoring at will and putting five past the Bengaluru goal-keeper. Cornell Glen scored twice with Lenny Rodrigues, Luciano Sabrosa and Azharuddin Mallick scoring once for the home team.
