Congress leaders have given notices to the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha to discuss the Uttarakhand government crisis in the second half of the Budget Session, which begins on Monday. The notices, given by Leader of Opposition in the Upper House, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and his deputy Anand Sharma are aimed at cornering the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Centre on the crisis.
The Congress has also sought the passage of a resolution condemning the Centre for destabilising a democratically-elected government in Uttarakhand by unjustifiably imposing President's Rule in the state, reported PTI. The party had earlier started the Loktantra Bachao, Uttarakhand Bachao, or Save Democracy, Save Uttarakhand, campaign to garner support against the Narendra Modi government.
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Uttarakhand High Court's verdict quashing the imposition of President’s Rule in the state till April 27. This was after the Centre said that the High Court judgement had resulted in a “serious miscarriage of justice” and that it deserved to be quashed by the Supreme Court.
Petitions filed by nine MLAs, who were disqualified by the Speaker after they left the Harish Rawat-led camp, will be heard by the Uttarakhand High Court on Monday.
