Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's public meeting in Trichy on Saturday will be held closer to sunset, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam announced. The meeting was earlier scheduled for 2.30 pm, party officials told The Times of India. The party has also reportedly organised 5 lakh water packets for those attending Saturday's rally.
This comes after Jayalalithaa faced severe criticism from opposition parties following the deaths of four people during her rallies in Vriddhachalam and Salem in the past two weeks. Both rallies were held in the afternoon. Most of the deaths were reportedly because of scorching summer temperatures in the state, with the mercury often touching 40 degrees Celsius.
Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakanth had moved the National Human Rights Commission on Thursday, seeking action against Jayalalithaa for the deaths.
