Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday he will step down if proven guilty in the Panama Papers leak investigation. In a televised address, Sharif also said that he has ordered an inquiry commission to be formed to investigate the allegations against him and his family members. "After Allah, I am only answerable to the people of Pakistan," Sharif said, as reported by ANI.

Sharif returned to Pakistan on Tuesday after a week-long trip to London for medical treatment, reported PTI. The 66-year-old has been under severe pressure from opposition parties to step down after his family members were named in a major leak of millions of documents from a Panama-based law firm, Mossack Fonseca, which revealed the hidden offshore wealth of some of the world's top leaders and celebrities.

According to the documents, Sharif's children Mariam, Hasan and Hussain “were owners or had the right to authorise transactions for several companies”, reported Dawn.
