Indian actor Priyanka Chopra was named in TIME’s 2016 list of the “100 Most Influential People”. The former beauty pageant winner, who was recently awarded a Padma Shri, made her mark overseas with her successful stint as Agent Alex Parish on television show Quantico. She will also be seen alongside Hollywood stars Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in the upcoming Baywatch movie. Chopra also presented an award at the Oscars this year.
Among those on the list released earlier on Thursday was environmentalist and political activist Sunita Narain. A Padma Shri awardee, she is the current director general of the Centre for Science and Environment. Governor of the Reserve Bank of India Raghuram Rajan, Indian-born CEO of Google Sundar Pichai, tennis player Sania Mirza, and Flipkart co-founders Sachin and Binny Bansal were the other Indians named in the list.
However, prominently missing from the list of the most influential people in the world is Prime Minster Narendra Modi. While he was among the likely contenders for TIME magazine’s annual list, he had made it to the magazine’s “30 most influential people on the Internet” list earlier in the year.
