India needs to have a population control law and enforce a two-child norm for all religions, Union Minister Giriraj Singh has said. The Bharatiya Janata Party MP said that if this is not done, “daughters will not be safe and might have to be kept under the veil, like in Pakistan”, reported The Indian Express. Hindu population is on the decline and this is worrying, Singh told ANI on Thursday. He also said that those who do not follow the population control law should have their voting rights revoked.
Singh has made controversial remarks earlier as well. In the run-up to the Bihar elections in November 2015, he said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav were trying to turn the state into Pakistan. He was also severely criticised for derogatory remarks against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi last year. He had said, “If Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian lady and not a white-skinned woman, then would the Congress have accepted her leadership?”
