Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has adopted two villages in the drought-hit Marathwada region, reported the Times of India. While visiting the region that is reeling under an acute water crisis, the veteran actor decided to support Tal and Koregaon, two adversely affected hamlets in the area.
Khan has been touring the worst affected regions in the state to create awareness about water conservation and watershed management. His NGO Paani Foundation works in the rural areas telling people the importance of such resources during dry seasons and how to go about creating them. During his campaign in Beed, the actor praised the Maharashtra government's Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan, and said, "Arresting rain water and conserving every drop are the only options to fight droughts and drought-like situations in the long run."
This the not the first time that the 51-year-old actor has adopted a village to help it tide over difficult times. After a severe earthquake shook Gujarat in 2001, Khan adopted villages in Kutch.Limited-time offer: Big stories, small price. Keep independent media alive. Become a Scroll member today!
