The Rajkot Police on Sunday ordered an inquiry after it appeared there was celebratory firing at cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wedding. A video was circulated on social media showing a man firing into the air from a revolver as part of Jadeja’s baraat procession.

The police said the wedding rituals have been taking place at a hotel on the outskirts of the city for the past two days. They added that it is unclear how many shots were fired. Rajkot Rural Superintendent of Police Antarip Sood told The Indian Express, “We have received reports of celebratory firing at the wedding procession and we have asked Lodhikha police to conduct an inquiry and file a report. It was a private function and police were in the area merely to regulate traffic.” The police will decide on whether an FIR is to be lodged after the inquiry.

Incidents of celebratory firing have caused consternation to local authorities all over the country for their propensity to cause tragic deaths. In February, a groom was killed during his own wedding in Uttar Pradesh in a similar incident.

Earlier, ANI had reported that the cricketer was seen brandishing a sword during his sangeet ceremony.
