The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state president in Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa, went into reverse gear on Saturday, cancelling his plan to tour the state’s drought-hit areas in a Rs 1-crore luxury SUV after many pointed out it would probably seem insensitive. He will take trains instead, The Hindu reported.
On Friday, it was announced that Yeddyurappa would use industrialist Murugesh Nirani’s car for his tour of Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, and Vijayapura from April 27 to May 1. However, he faced immediate flak from the Congress and was even cautioned by some of his BJP colleagues. On Saturday Yeddyurappa also clarified that the SUV was not a gift and that he would have returned it after the trip.
