Gujarat Lions beat the Mumbai Indians by three wickets in an Indian Premier League match at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium on Saturday. Gujarat won the toss and opted to field, before allowing the Mumbai Indians to set them a target of 144. In the tight chase that followed, the Gujarat Lions managed to win off the last ball of the innings.
Mumbai got off to a slow start, losing three early wickets. Dhawal Kulkarni helped send Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya back to the dugout early with measly scores of 7 and 2. Teammate Shadab Jakati, who took the catches that dismissed Sharma and Pandya, later chipped in with a wicket of his own, taking down Jos Buttler. Mumbai ended its innings having scored 143/8.
The Gujarat chase that followed was built around opener Aaron Finch, who anchored the innings by smashing 67 runs off 54 balls. Suresh Raina also chipped in with another 27 runs, despite the efforts of Mitchell McClenaghan, who finished the innings with 4/21.
