Two Indian medical students have died, while another has been wounded, after they were stabbed in Ukraine on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Monday. “In an unfortunate event, three Indian students in Uzhgorod Medical College (Ukraine) were stabbed by three Ukrainian nationals at around 3 am in the morning of April 10,” said ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup (pictured above).
The two deceased were identified as Pranav Shaindilya and Ankur Singh, while Indrajeet Chauhan is recuperating in hospital. Based on Chauhan's statement, local police apprehended three Ukranian nationals who were trying to cross the border. The police reportedly recovered a blood-stained knife and passports/documents of the three Indians, all of whom hail from Uttar Pradesh, from the accused.
The Indian Embassy in Kiev is taking all necessary measures to have the bodies of the victims brought to India, the ministry said, adding that it is also taking up the matter of the safety of Indian students with Ukraine. The embassy is also verifying facts with the police, the university and other local contacts.
