Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer MK Stalin on Friday launched the party’s campaign for the state elections in the chief minister’s constituency, RK Nagar in Chennai. The DMK leader said his party had launched a door-to-door campaign against Jayalalithaa and claimed that she had not delivered on many promises made to the state Assembly. She had won the RK Nagar bypoll with a record margin after she was acquitted in a disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.
The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo will launch her campaign in Chennai on Saturday. She will also release the party’s election manifesto, The New Indian Express reported. Jayalalithaa is set to address public rallies across all key cities in the state in the next few weeks.
Reports have said that the Election Commission has stepped up measures to curb money distribution ahead of the polls, and that it will send in additional officials to each state. Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said the number of Expenditure Observers for Tamil Nadu would be increased, and that the commission will also work with the Reserve Bank of India to plan further action against distribution of money in the states headed for elections. The commission has seized the most money from Tamil Nadu so far.
