In a first, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee admitted that her government has committed some mistakes during her tenure and apologised for them, reported India Today. "I am at fault. I am taking responsibility for all the errors. You can be angry with me but do not deprive Trinamool Congress of your blessings. Otherwise it will be difficult for me to move ahead," she said during an election rally in Kulti, Burdwan district. State assembly polls will be held in the district on April 21.
The government has come under fire following the March 31 flyover collapse in Kolkata which left 26 people dead and more than 89 injured. On March 14, a news website called Narada News released videos that purport to show several leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress accepting wads of cash in return for promises to grant favours to a fictitious company. The authenticity of the footage has not been confirmed by Scroll.in independently.
