Thirty new police dogs have been inducted into the Delhi Police dog squad at a programme attended by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung. IANS reported that 20 of them will be sniffer dogs used to unearth explosives, while 10 will be tracker dogs. Hindustan Times said the dogs were all seven months old and trained with the Indian Army in Meerut. More than Rs 1.75 lakh was spent to find and train each dog.
The last recruitment happened during the Commonwealth Games, during which there were around 110 dogs in the Delhi Police dog squad, said Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson.
