West Indies smashed 24 off the last over of their chase to win their second World Twenty20 title, defeating England by four wickets. They chased down England's 155/6 with two balls left.

England started badly, losing a wicket off their second ball and slumped to 23/3. A Joe Root special (54 off 36 balls) kept them in the hunt as Jos Buttler's 23-ball 36 gave England the push they required. Some late hitting from David Willey helped England post a respectable 155.

West Indies got off to a worse start, slumping to 11/3. Then, Marlon Samuels played one of his greatest-ever knocks, single-handedly keeping West Indies in the game as wickets fell around him, finishing with an unbeaten 85 off 66 balls. Dwayne Bravo (25 off 23 balls) was the only other batsman who gave him some support but more wickets fell as West Indies needed 19 to win in the last over with four wickets in the hand.

Carlos Brathwaite then coolly slammed four sixes off the first four balls to take West Indies to their second World Twenty20 title after their last triumph in 2012. It was the second triumph of the day for them as a few hours earlier in the day, the West Indies women's team had also won the title, defeating Australia by eight wickets.
