Opinion polls carried out by India Today and C-Voter said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party is set to retain power in the upcoming Assembly elections. The polls also predicted a win for the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, and the Left Democratic Front in Kerala. The survey showed that there might be a hung Assembly in Assam, currently ruled by the Congress. It projected the Bharatiya Janata Party will win around 55 seats of the 126-member House, which is nine seats short of a majority.

The Hindu reported that the polls showed the Congress winning 53 seats in Assam, and 12 for the All India United Democratic Front. In Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa may get a majority and win 130 seats in the 234-member House. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Congress' alliance is projected to win 70 seats, while the BJP might not win a single seat. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s TMC could win 160 seats of the state’s 294. The Left-Congress alliance is predicted to win around 137, while the BJP might get only four seats. In Kerala again, the BJP might not win more than a couple of seats, whereas the LDF is projected to win 86 of the House’s 140. The Congress-led alliance might win around 50 seats.
