England entered the final of the World Twenty20 after cruising past New Zealand in the first semi-final in Delhi on Wednesday. England chased down New Zealand's 153/8 with ease, reaching home with seven wickets and 17 balls to spare.
New Zealand came into the game as favourites, having won all their group games and started off in that fashion, smashing 11 runs in the first hour. The first 10 overs brought them 89 runs for the loss of just a wicket as captain Kane Williamson (32 off 28) and Colin Munro (46 off 32) made merry. Williamson's wicket however kickstarted a collapse as New Zealand scored only 64 in the next 10 overs and lost seven more wickets, as England fought back in the game. Ben Stokes took 3/26 in his four overs for England.
Any chances New Zealand may had to defend their total were blown away by a whirlwind opening partnership between Alex Hales and Jason Roy, who put on 82 in 50 balls. Hales was dismissed for just 20, but Roy went on and scored 78 off 44 balls. New Zealand dismissed Roy and Eoin Morgan off consecutive deliveries with the score at 110, but Joe Root and Jos Buttler extinguished Kiwi hopes, finishing the game and ensuring England reached their second World Twenty20 final after the 2010 edition which they had won.
England will play either India or West Indies in the final in Kolkata on Sunday.
