Bharatiya Janata Party National Secretary Rahul Sinha on Monday said two policemen from Kolkata tried to bribe him into helping them illegally transport cows across the India-Bangladesh border. According to the Hindustan Times, the two were arrested. Sinha said they have since been suspended from their posts.

Subhasish Raychaudhuri and Aminul Rahaman are believed to have met Sinha at the party's West Bengal headquarters earlier in the day and allegedly offered him a large sum of money. Sinha said he quickly called officers at the Jorasanko police station, who arrived and arrested the duo.

According to The Indian Express, Sinha alleged that the incident was a conspiracy by the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, which rules the state, to trap the BJP in a bribery scandal ahead of April's Assembly elections. Earlier this month, news website Narada News released videos of a "sting operation" that allegedly showed several Trinamool Congress leaders accepting bribes by representatives of a fake company.
