The second-in-command of the Islamic State Haji Imam was killed in a raid in Syria this month, the Pentagon confirmed on Friday. Defence Secretary Ash Carter made the announcement on Friday. According to AP, Carter described him as the group's finance minister who was a "well-known terrorist" and had a hand in terrorist plots outside of Iraq and Syria. It is unclear where he was killed. A defence official told CNN that he was killed in the last two days.

Earlier this month, officials had said top Islamic State commander Tarkhan Batirashvili, also known as Omar al-Shishani and Omar, the Chechen, was believed to have been killed in a US airstrike in Syria. While Syrian observers had initially disputed the claim, Pentagon officials later confirmed that Batirashvili succumbed to the wounds he sustained in the attack.
