The Indian government on Friday granted visas to a five-member Joint Investigation Team from Pakistan who have been designated to look into the Pathankot attacks, PTI reported. The team will reach New Delhi on Sunday. According to India Today, the team comprises members from Pakistan’s intelligence and counter-terrorism departments.
On March 17, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had held talks with her Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of a South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation meeting in Pokhara, Nepal. Swaraj had announced then that the Pakistani team would visit India on March 27.
The JIT’s work will include deliberations with India’s National Investigative Agency, and they will have limited access to the Pathankot air base, where 13 people were killed in attacks by alleged cross-border terrorists in January. The attacks had derailed bilateral ties between the two countries, and forced the postponement of foreign secretary-level talks.
