Google Maps now points to Jawaharlal Nehru University when the words “anti-national” or “sedition” are typed in. Hindustan Times reported that students and faculty at the university have expressed their displeasure at the tech glitch in the world’s largest search engine, and that they will approach Google about the problem. “On the face of it, it looks offensive. We will contact Google authorities and find out why and how such a thing can happen,” Shehla Rashid Shora, vice president of the Students’ Union told Hindustan Times. Google has not commented on the issue yet.
The educational institution came in the limelight after three of its students were charged with sedition and arrested for alleged anti-national activities. JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, and two others Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were arrested and later let out on interim bail. The three reportedly shouted anti-national slogans at an event organised in JNU to protest the judicial death of Parliament attacks convict Afzal Guru.
