India squeezed out a last-gasp win against Bangladesh, defending 146 in a game which went down to the last over – indeed the last ball.
Bangladesh needed 11 runs to win in the last over and almost got home, but lost three wickets in the last three balls to lose by only one run.
Despite coming into the game as firm favourites, India's performance never lived up to their billing. On a difficult pitch to bat on, their batting was slow and hesitant. Mashrafe Mortaza rotated his bowlers well and the Bangladeshi fielders did well to restrict India to only 146/7.
For India, Suresh Raina top-scored with 30 off 23 balls.
For large parts of Bangladesh's innings, they looked like they were in control despite wickets at regular intervals. Tamim Iqbal's 32-ball 35 got Bangladesh off to a flyer but Ravichandran Ashwin (2/20) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/22) kept India in the game.
Bangladesh needed 11 off the last over, and a boundary got them to two required off three balls.
However, both Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah failed to clear the field and perished. With 2 required off the last ball, Shuvagata Hom played and missed, the batsmen ran and Mahendra Singh Dhoni managed to run Musrafizur Rahman out to keep India alive.
