Taxi aggregator Uber has filed a case against rival Ola accusing it of creating more than 90,000 fake accounts to get an unfair advantage in the business, reported NDTV. In its petition to the Delhi High Court, Uber claimed it has paid more than Rs 5 lakh in cancellation charges as Ola booked rides on its app using phone numbers to which calls could not be made. The Indian arm of the US-based company has demanded Rs 49.61 crore as compensation for the losses.
“Consequently, drivers wait for 10—15 minutes before cancelling the trip resulting in cancellation charges to be borne by Uber and the driver,” the company said. Ola, however, has denied the claims and made counter-allegations on its part. “We can only speculate that this is a counter to the contempt proceedings pending against Uber in this Honourable High Court. It is not beyond our imagination that this is an effort to divert attention from the current realities of the market where Uber has faced major setbacks including the recent incidents of Uber vehicles being seized by government authorities," Ola said in a statement.
Ola had filed a contempt petition against Uber for allegedly "adding and plying new diesel vehicles within Delhi in wilful and deliberate defiance of the local rules and regulations”.
According to PTI, the court has asked ANI Technologies, which runs the Ola app, to submit its response within four weeks. The next hearing in the matter will take place on September 14.
